On 25th of August Pranab Mukherjee and Arvind Kejriwal launched an app that let’s you rate your neta. The app that would let you rate your neta is being termed as a milestone in making Indian Democracy Participative.
The app named Neta was launched on Friday. The app lets voters rate and review the performances of their neta. The app is developed by a 27 year old entrepreneur Pratham Mittal.
Speaking at the launch Mr. Mukherjee said that “A good democracy cannot work without informed voters, good leaders and complete transparency and accountability.”
Arvind Kejriwal, former Chief Election Commissioners S Y Quraishi and Nasim Zaidi, former Law Minister Ashwani Kumar, former HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, former Home Minister Shivraj Patil, and MoS Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla were present along with the former president.
Arvind Kejriwal praised the app by saying that it would help people caste their vote beyond caste and religion.
“In a democracy like ours, there are many people who are unable to meet their representatives due to the size and scale involved. In such an atmosphere, this app will be able to offer voter feedback to representatives on their performance. It will also help parties gauge the performance of their leaders and help them decide which candidates to offer tickets to.
The app that let’s you rate your Neta is named as “Neta”.
Review of Neta: Rate your Neta
So as you open the app it would ask you for your area pincode. As you enter the pincode it will show MP’s and MLA’s from your locality and you can cast your vote for them. The menu consist of several options like your profile, register to vote, your voter slip and become a star citizen. Out of these two options register to vote and your votes slip are yet to be released features.
Rate your Neta: The test
To test the app we entered our pincode. The results we found were not satisfying. Also it is easy to get fake votes on the app. Claiming the votes received as a base of work done by a candidate would be wrong. It is going to be very easy for the rich representatives to manipulate the votes in their favour. Morover it would have been great if the app would allow users to rate the work done in certain field and that too on comparison basis.
On a final note I would like to add that the app isn’t going to help much. The launch was over hyped by the owners. And it would do more wrong than right to the Indian Democracy.
