Highway Construction per day gets doubled
Road has always been the first phase of development. It is an essential part for overall development of a state or a country. It touches every phase of life be it education, employment, health etc. Performance of a government is always associated with road construction. On the scale of 1-10 the current government has made a huge leap in the last 4 years. The leap has been been from highway to express way and from express way to super highway. The main pillar for such a vast difference is none other than the transport minister Nitin Gadkari.
Highway Construction per day during UPA
During the previous government the road construction was hindered by several factors such as incautious decision making, lacking coordination, late land acquisition and dispute among agencies. About a dozen of schemes were untouched for years. These schemes were so much stuck in problems like land acquisition, forest approval and utility shifting that the banks stopped providing loans to the road construction agencies. In certain cases dispute between agencies and NHAI led to the delay in completion of a project.
Highway Construction per day in it’s Golden Phase
The golden phase of road construction started when Mr Gadkari took over as the Minister of Road Transport and Highways. He showed to the world that development can only be there if there is a will.He promised to construct 18 km of road daily but currently 27 km of road construction is done on daily basis. The growth has been enormous, from somewhere around 10 km we have reached a grand score of 27 km per day and that too in a span of 4 years. Now he has put forward a goal of 42 km a day. Roads has been a life line to the current government. For the creation of Expressway backward regions of the country are being selected. And it is a well known fact that construction of Highways in a region provides the people with lot of opportunities in field of employment and money making.
Changes that Occurred
In several meetings with road ministry, forest ministry,NHAI, PWD and banks there has been talks to work on more than 300 schemes. And there have been several meetings with PM and CM’s to change some rules so that the pace could be fastened in the coming years. For construction of roads in north east and Uttarakhand NHIDCL has been set up along with already existing BRO. For instant decision making the number of officers have increased and the permission for a 1000 Cr project now lies in the hand of ministers. Mr Gadkari has also made NHAI change it’s working procedure that has led to fast decision making and less disputes among agencies and NHAI
Te overall work of Road and Highway ministry has been more than sufficient in the last four years and the target of 42 km of road construction everyday is going to be like dram come true and would setup a milestone for coming government as well.Overall the steps have been small but are quite effective.
