Doorstep Service Delivery Scheme has been a flagship program of Delhi government. The Delhi Government has been trying to roll it out since long time. And after all the controversies it has been rolled out successfully.
Under this scheme the people of Delhi would be able to get up to 40 government services such as getting caste, income, domicile and marriage certificates, new water connections, driving licence, vehicle registration, scholarships and pensions
Many of the experts feel that Doorstep Service Delivery would only solve a small part of the larger problem.
Dunu Roy, director at Hazards Centre said “This would only e=reduce the physical queues but would stack up virtual ones. The officers issuing the certificate would be same. So it has only made getting these services easier but getting them timely can not be guaranteed”.
On the first day out of 25000 calls received on 1076 only 1286 were answered. This shows that Delhi Government is short staffed and it would not be easy to handle such large amount of support to people.
What’s more concerning is that fact that the mobile sahayaks who would go door to door are mere 66 in number. The government of Delhi claimed that the response Doorstep Service Delivery scheme has got is quite high and was unexpected.
These word from Delhi government clearly indicates that the government was not fully prepared before launching the scheme.
Colin Gonsalves, human rights lawyer said “It is a good idea, but we have to wait and watch. Seeing the list of services, it is clear that those who do not have address proof of Delhi but live in the city would be out of this system” . He further added that using AADHAR could be an option for the government in the coming days.
Moreover Manoj Tiwary claimed that he tried dialing 1076 in front of media but there was no reply to the call. We just have a simple question for Mr. Tiwary. Why did you call the number or What was the service you needed? It was just to check if it was working or not. And we hope same is the case with many of the calls received on the first day. So rolling a scheme to be a failure in 1 day is a proof of your intelligence.
The Doorstep Service Delivery Scheme by Delhi government is out and government has high hopes with it and so do we the people living in Delhi. So let’s wait for few months before providing our judgement on the success of the scheme.
